Staying in the Gothic Quarter for under €150 a night

Staying in Barcelona's oldest quarter is usually presented as a splurge. It does not have to be. Six hotels we cover list a lowest rate at or below €150 a night — and they are not all hostels, and not all on the edges.

Carrer de Ferran historic pedestrian boulevard in the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Superb
8.5 / 10 our score

Travellers on a tight budget who need to be on foot in the middle of the quarter, and who want a private bathroom at hostal prices

Hostal Fernando

Carrer de Ferran, 31 – between La Rambla and Plaça Sant Jaume, Barri Gòtic, 08002 Barcelona

Hostal Fernando is at Carrer de Ferran, 31, between La Rambla and Plaça Sant Jaume, and it is the cheapest address in this guide. The operator's own site blocks automated access, so this page is written from Internet Archive snapshots of it taken in 2022 and 2024. Those list seven room types: Single, Double or Twin, Triple, Family, Double Superior, and dormitories for four and six adults. All rooms are air-conditioned with free Wi-Fi, and the site describes them as recently remodelled with a TV, a safe and a private bathroom. There is a Restaurant Fernando serving Spanish food, and a guest review on the site notes the renovation is complete and the lift is working.

Carrer d'Avinyó historic street in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter Superb
8.6 / 10 our score

Catalonia Avinyó sits in a modern building on Carrer d'Avinyó, one of the busiest lanes in the Barri Gòtic, and the hotel's own site puts its size at more than 80 rooms. The design is of its period rather than historic: a designer lobby, a street-level cafeteria, and an interior courtyard planted as a vertical garden. Rooms run from 12 m² singles to 21 m² superiors, and the roof carries a pool and solarium. It is five minutes on foot from the Cathedral, Plaça Reial and La Rambla, and under ten from El Born.

H10 Racó del Pi is on a pedestrianised street at number 7 of Carrer del Pi, a few steps from Plaça del Pi, in a building listed as part of the city's historical and artistic heritage. It is the quietest of the three H10 hotels here: there is no rooftop pool and no spa, but there is a naturally lit inner courtyard, a breakfast restaurant called D'En Perot, and a business corner. The top-floor attic rooms have overhead windows. The hotel publishes a guest score of 4.4 out of 5 from 1,543 reviews on its own website.

What these prices are, and what they are not

Every figure below is the lowest one-night price for two adults that we could read on the hotel's own booking page when we checked in September 2026, with no member rate and no non-refundable discount applied. Hotel pricing in Barcelona moves with the calendar more than with anything else, so treat these as the floor of each hotel rather than a rate you can count on for your dates.

Two things push rates up hard: La Mercè at the end of September, and the Christmas period. If your trip lands on either, budget from the top of the range and be pleased if you do better. Our guide to La Mercè and the Christmas markets explains why.

The six

  • Hostal Fernando — from around €65. Hostal Fernando on Carrer de Ferran, halfway between La Rambla and Plaça Sant Jaume, so genuinely inside the quarter rather than at its edge. Private rooms and small dormitories, private bathrooms in the rooms, a lift and a restaurant downstairs. If you want the Gòtic on a hostel budget without a shared bathroom, this is the answer.
  • Catalonia Avinyó — from around €116. Catalonia Avinyó on Carrer d'Avinyó, a narrow street of small shops in the middle of the quarter. A rooftop pool, a solarium and a fitness room at this price is the reason the page exists: it is the cheapest way into a pool on a Gòtic roof.
  • Hotel Rívoli — from around €120. Hotel Rívoli at the top of La Rambla by Plaça Catalunya. Rooftop terrace and sky bar, a gym, 24-hour reception. You are buying position and a view rather than quiet — read which parts of the quarter are loud before you decide a Rambla address suits you.
  • Petit Palace Boquería Garden — from around €130. Petit Palace Boquería Garden on Carrer de la Boquería, beside the market and La Rambla. You are paying for the garden of the Casa Ignacio de Puig, not for tranquillity: this is one of the busiest corners in the city. Free bicycles and a Sunday and Monday late checkout make it work harder for a long weekend.
  • Hotel Barcelona Catedral — from around €136. Hotel Barcelona Catedral on Carrer dels Capellans, directly behind the Cathedral. A rooftop pool, a sun terrace with hammocks and a rooftop gym. The best all-round value here for a first visit, because the location does the work of a guidebook.
  • H10 Racó del Pi — from around €150. H10 Racó del Pi on Carrer del Pi, beside Plaça del Pi in the heart of the quarter. A heritage-listed building with a naturally lit inner courtyard, family rooms, and one of the highest guest scores in the guide. The top of the budget rather than a bargain, but the most quietly located of the six.

Honest caveats

The cheapest room in a medieval building is usually the one with the worst outlook: a light well, an internal courtyard, or a window onto a wall. That is often a feature rather than a fault. In a quarter this busy, an interior room is frequently the quiet one. Where we know a hotel's room categories, the hotel page says which to ask for and why.

And the usual Barcelona arithmetic: the tourist tax is charged per person per night on top of the rate shown, and old buildings mean stairs. Hostal Fernando and the Catalonia hotels list lifts. Hotel Neri, elsewhere in this guide, does not, which is one reason it is not on this page.
