Travellers who want a genuine five-star with a Michelin-Key restaurant and a Roman-walls setting, and who are willing to pay for it
Ohla is a five-star design hotel of 74 rooms on Via Laietana, 49, in the middle of the Gothic Quarter, built around a landscaped inner courtyard. The room sizes are unusually well specified for the price band: 25 m² at the entry level, stepping through 26 and 27–30 m² to 40 and 42 m² Junior Suites. There is a rooftop pool, breakfast is included, and the hotel advertises a Michelin-starred culinary experience led by the French chef Romain Fornell.
A five-star design hotel of 74 rooms where the rooms are properly sized and the courtyard is landscaped
Our read on the trade-offs — what we would book it for, and what we would want to know first.
Start with the arithmetic rather than the styling. The Essential at 25 m² looks onto the landscaped courtyard, and the Design at 26 m² is a single square metre more, so if the courtyard view is acceptable to you the Essential is the better value by a distance. If you want the city, go to the Design Deluxe at 27–30 m². The real step up is the Junior Suite at 40 m², where the site says the bathroom merges into the bedroom as one open space, and the Junior Suite Deluxe at 42 m² adds a special bath; both include the wine and chocolates, which is a small but genuine perk.
Situated at Via Laietana, 49 – Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, placing you in the historic heart of the Barri Gòtic.
