Travellers who want a genuine five-star with a Michelin-Key restaurant and a Roman-walls setting, and who are willing to pay for it
Catalonia Port occupies a historic building at Carrer Ample, 1, at the foot of the Gothic Quarter and a couple of minutes from Port Vell. Some of its rooms keep original stone arches that have been restored in place. The pool sits in a garden courtyard with a solarium rather than on the roof, there is a gym, and the hotel runs its own car park with electric charging points. The Junior Suite adds a 39 m² terrace and its own small pool with seafront views.
A historic building with a garden-courtyard pool at the harbour end of the quarter, and the best-value private-pool room in this guide
Our read on the trade-offs — what we would book it for, and what we would want to know first.
The choice here is courtyard or seafront. The 28 m² Superior looks over the garden courtyard and has a restored stone arch dividing the sleeping area from a small living room, which makes it the most characterful standard room. The Premium Superior, also 28 m², takes pool views and is the newer refurbishment. If you want a private pool, the Junior Suite is the pick, but note the official site describes its pool as unheated.
Situated at Carrer Ample, 1 – foot of the Barri Gòtic, beside Port Vell, 08002 Barcelona, placing you in the historic heart of the Barri Gòtic.
